Why the trade system is bad for Guild Wars is because one must give himself a migraine headache along with much mental anguish and become a hardcore trade spammer in order to buy or sell anything. That is by far the most important reason why the trade system is the most fundamentally game-breaking thing in Guild Wars and an Auction House is desperately needed. End of story.
I agree completely. Everyone knows where you have to go to buy or even have a chance of selling your items. The only problem is I can't sit in LA or Kaineng district 1 for more than about 20 minutes before I start to see double and get a splitting headache from trying to read all of the spam.

Something needs to be done. At this point I'm almost up for ANYTHING that will make trading easier. My inventory is full of rare items and max weapon upgrades that I will never use, but can't sell, even for well below "fair market value." I know there are people out there who will buy them, hence the higher prices for these items. Its just a matter of having a way to get buyers and sellers together.

To all of you who say that we should just use the auction services outside of GW, that is just bs. Yes, the service is nice and all, but I bought the game to play, not spend time listing the items I want to sell at some website. I don't have hours and hours of time to play each day, so I want to spend my time in game.

In my experience, only when you hold out for top price do you have to wait long to sell things. If you discount the price, you can sell it quickly and get on with playing the game.

In case you haven't heard: ANet will not be providing an auction house. They are working on "trade improvements", but there will not be an auction house. There have been many things that players have asked for that ANet has implemented, but they have been very firm to never say they were working on an auction house. There must be a good reason for it, and I assume it is because it would hurt the playability of the game in other ways, such as bandwidth. I trust ANet knows what they are doing and are mindful of the long-term survivability of the game. I'm afraid no matter how many threads like this pop-up, it won't bring an auction house.

I read the entire first post and I can't say I agree with a lot of it. But I want to address the above quote. The rarest items in the game are not meant to be obtainable by everyone. Not everyone should have everything... That very quality is exactly what makes them sought after by those who can afford them.

Everyone has the opportunity to make their gaming experience what they want. If they want to accumulate wealth, they can do that. If they want to actually play the PvE aspect, they can do that. If they want to PvP, they can do that. Only those who have lots and lots of time to spend, can do many of these things.

Is getting id of the spamming within the various towns not worth getting an Auction House. I signed the petition to get rid of the spammers within the game, my other suggestions can help out also but the biggest thing is an Auction House can create a placed where anyone can go and look over the items that others have put there to sell. This can also curb the trade cheats, thos that will do a quick switch on another player just to either get an tem cheaper or to cheat someone out of gold. In an Auction House: what your winning bid was is what you wiill have to pay and there can be no switching of items either cause the transaction is handled by the Auction House.
On bandwidth: an Auction House can take a bit fron the available ammount that A-Net and NC-Soft have, but I believe that the fee for each transaction will offset any problems there.

I haven't read everything above, but what I would emphasize in this article is that anet is condoning, if not supporting, people to break the EULA for gw economy. The whole bot mess screws up the economy immensely. With the huge amounts of money coming in from bot farming it makes everyone else's money worth very little.

E.g. Say gw has a net of 100 billion gold in non-bot earned money, then 100 billion gold is added through 24/7 troll bots (and they will find another farm to take advantage of the "anti-farm a.i. its inevitable) then the player's money you would think is worth one half as far as high end items go. This is not true. Because the 100 billion added is in only say 5% of the population, these players can afford to pay over 20 times what another could afford to spend (not to mention they surpassed the mark where they have full unlock, so the amount of "free money" to spend on luxury items is far superior than just 20 times what the average player can afford).

So to compete with these bot farmers, players go to ebay. To buy money from bot farmers!!!!! (So basically to compete with illegal farmers, they buy illegally from illegal farmers)

I just think Anet should emphasize banning on bot users. Anyone player who's ever been to elona or droks can easily spot out any bot, they move only in awsd (not diagonal) won't respond, etc etc. Since its common knowledge where people use bots to farm, I don't think it would take anet much work to catch bot users.

Point wel put when A-Net and NC-Soft crack down on the bot farmers it should be swift and hard. Also go after the people that create the bot programs.
As far as an auction house goes again I stress if A-Net and NC-Soft do go this way, they need to put caps on the price that can be gotten for items, effectivly shuttinng down the "Ecto" economy. Also make the ectos easier to get instead of making them hard as heck to farm for. Allow only certian items to be freely traded (ex: runes, weapon mods, crafting materials) to keep the current trade system in place, but put high dollar items in the auction house only. Doing these suggestions can bring under control what is effectivaly an economy that is ready to collapse. Think about what happens in the real world when the supply of items is out stripped by the demand, then an influx of those items hits the market. Too much of a good thing is not so good.
Bring some control into the Guild Wars economy.
